Five Months

Five months have past since I first came face to face with my littlest buddies.  We have come so far and the babies have changed so much.  They are such healthy, happy little ones.    These babies shared their little corner of the world with each other for a LONG 9 months, but as fraternal twins they are so different.

Drew is our big guy, weighing somewhere around 16 pounds. He has an egg shaped belly, similar to his mommy at this age!  He is so solid and very strong.  He has cheeks to kiss all day long, and somewhere under that chubby chin is his neck, which is so ticklish if you can find it.  He often looks grouchy, but I believe it has more to do with gravity and the weight of his huge cheeks, rather than his temperment. Drew drinks (and holds all by himself) a 6 ounce bottle with such aggression that you might suppose we aren't feeding him regularly.  When eating rice cereal for the first time, he made a face that looked like I was serving him lemons. Apparently, he doesn't like rice cereal.   He rolls over now, and has for about a week.  He giggles at others so much, and seems to find humor in life in general.  The drama never ends with this one though.  He wakes with a scream, but calms quickly with a hug.  He is often upset also when his best buddy tries to roll on top of him, wrap his arm across his face, or tug on his ears.  He sleeps like a rock at night, but in short spurts during the day. Long naps sometimes happen in his favorite spot, the vibration chair, but those days will soon be over because his weight nearly bows it to the floor.

Graham is our little one weighing around 14 pounds.  He is long, lean, flexible and very wiggly.  He is so difficult to hold compared to his twin. Although he was larger at birth, he now is much lighter than his twin.  His smiles light up a room, and his squeals are high pitched music to my ears.  He takes a 5 ounce bottle, and sucks it down in a leisurely pace, usually finishing after Drew. When we had our first rice cereal today, Graham sat still and eagerly ate each bite.  And, of course, smiled at me the entire time. He can sleep anywhere, and he can sneak away quickly if you're not careful - he has been rolling across the room for about 7 weeks.  He sleeps curled up on his belly and wakes happily, waiting patiently for us to fetch him up from the crib, or where ever he deemed a comfy place to rest.  I know sleep is moments away when he assumes the position - arms above his head turned to the left.
I delight in my children more than I could have possibly imagined before motherhood. I find so much joy in watching all three of the boys play together.  Aiden's gentle pats, and his many songs that he sings to the babies are so precious.  He likes to do the Hokey Pokey with Graham, and sings Twinkle, Twinkle when they cry.  Aiden is so anxious for his baby brothers to play with him.  For now, a little hand reaching for him when he is leaning close, or a little giggle is enough to make Aiden so proud and happy to be a big brother.
